My Personal Battle With Wrinkle and My Journey to Find the Best Anti Wrinkle Cream

Best Anti Wrinkle CreamMy search for the world’s best anti wrinkle cream was initiated by a five year old child. ‘You’ve got a wrinkly face!’ my sister’s daughter Becky shouted out joyfully one day as she squashed my face around. ‘Is that right?’ I replied, and she came back with the damning ‘Yes, it’s wrinklier than my mummy’s.’ Well, thank you for that Becky, at least you made me have a long hard look in the mirror. It was true; I was indeed wrinklier than my older sister, but that’s what years of smoking and eating rubbish will do to you.

It’s a horrible thing to realise, though, and I knew it was only going to get worse if I didn’t take some action. A facelift was out of the question as I’m not a millionaire, and most over-the-counter anti-wrinkle creams I’ve picked up have done absolutely nothing for me. Rather than spend a lot of money on another useless one, I decided to do my homework for once and investigate the ingredients of skin care products to see if I could ascertain which ones could really help me and other people suffering from premature wrinkles, in other words which creams were really the best anti wrinkle creams in the world.

Finding a Best Wrinkle Cream is Very Hard… Top of the range Anti-Aging skin cream

The first contender in my search for the best anti wrinkle cream out there was Lifecell skin cream. I realise that you can probably spend thousands on skin care products if you want to, but since these creams are totally out of my reach I didn’t even bother looking at them (I have a funny feeling they won’t perform any better than a normally priced skin care product anyway). Lifecell is pretty expensive compared to the skin care products I normally buy, but I do tend to be a bit of a cheapskate in this area and apparently it shows on my face (thank you Becky). I’ve discovered that my usual cheap products actually do nothing at all but sit on the surface of my face, creating a thin layer of cream that’s smooth to the touch and giving the illusion that the quality of my skin has actually been improved.

Lifecell, on the other hand, has quite a bit of science behind it. It works through four main ingredients; deanol (or DMEA, it’s the same thing), ascorbyl palmitate, ubiquinone and acetyl hexapeptide-3. So far, so mystifying; so how do these ingredients work and what do they really do? Well, let’s begin with deanol. This is a chemical that is actually produced in the human brain to help with muscle function. When added to the body it improves muscle tone, which helps to reduce skin sagginess. This is most effective when used around the jaw line and neck to reduce that ‘jowly’ look we can develop as we age. It also happens to have the nice side effect of causing lip cells to expand, giving a pleasant plump and rosy effect.

Ascorbyl palmitate, meanwhile, is actually simply the fat soluble form of vitamin C. Vitamin C is not really known as being one of the skin vitamins, but in fact it is essential to the production of collagen and healthy skin cells and also helps with scar tissue healing. Collagen depletion is one of the main causes behind ageing, so keeping high levels is essential in staving off the ageing process. For more information on how vitamin C works for your skin.

Ubiquinone is otherwise known as Coenzyme Q10. You may have noticed this being marketed as an energy-boosting supplement for older people, and it is effective for this too. It basically helps to smooth along the process of bringing energy to every cell in the human body, helping each cell to function properly. In its ubiquinone form it functions as a highly powerful antioxidant. As you may know, oxidation is the process that causes cell ageing and death and is thought to be one of the main causes of ageing. Oxidation happens due to free radicals in the body, and these are the natural by-products of breathing and eating so can’t really be avoided. The only way to fight oxidation and free radical damage, therefore, is to consume a high level of antioxidants in your diet and to supplement them with topical skin care products.

Acetyl hexapeptide-3 is the really interesting ingredient. It is actually a peptide which is the shortened version of the Botulinum toxin. Yes, that’s right, the botulinum toxin that’s used in botox. As you can imagine, it has similar results. Although not quite as severe as botox, it reduces muscle movement to an extent, which stops wrinkles in their tracks, making Lifecell a very strong contender for the title of the best anti aging cream I’ve found.

Mid range anti aging creams

For those who aren’t willing to shell out for the fantastic array of ingredients in the Lifecell skin cream, another possible winner of the best anti wrinkle cream competition is Dermatology’s Anti Ageing Solution. Again, this is a good sight more expensive than I’m personally used to paying, but I know people who spend a lot more on their products for very little results (and for very few active ingredients). This cream depends on the active ingredients, hyaluronic acid, argireline, and Matrixyl 3000.

Hyaluronic acid, or hyaluronan, is an anionic, nonsulfated glycosaminoglycan. This all sounds very complicated but basically hyaluronic acid is just a component of skin. Its function is to help with cell repair, especially after UVB damage. When supplemented in this way, it causes skin to repair itself more effectively, reducing the appearance of wrinkles and reducing the wrinkles that have already appeared.

Argireline, meanwhile, is actually just another name for acetyl hexapeptide-3, which we’ve already learned is a shortened version of the botulinum toxin. So the Anti Ageing Solution Cream from Dermatology is also capable of producing these botox-like results.

Matrixyl 3000 is a compound of matrikines including Palmitoyl Oligopeptide and Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide which stimulates collagen production in skin cells, just like ascorbyl palmitate does. Again, because it’s a reduction in the production of collagen that causes wrinkles, keeping the levels of collagen high can be extremely effective in keeping wrinkles at bay. All of these ingredients together make Dermatology definitely one of the best anti wrinkle creams I’ve found.

Natural anti ageing products

However, if you don’t want to use any strange chemicals that you’re not sure about, and don’t like the thought of putting botox into your face, you’ll be looking for the best anti aging cream that is made from natural ingredients. The 7 minute Lift from Athena, for example, seems very interesting.

This cream contains an absolute multitude of natural ingredients including jasmine oil, lemon peel oil, orange peel oil, rose flower oil, sweet almond oil, peppermint oil, edelweiss extract and lavender oil. Basically, all of these oils work through the same principles as the engineered ingredients of the previous two products I’ve been discussing. They contain a wide variety of vitamins that are essential to skin health, including vitamins C, A, E, B1, B2 and B6. Vitamin C is essential for skin cell repair, while vitamin A is otherwise known as retinol, the main ingredient of the acne drug Accutane (in its isotretinoin form).

So of course it’s worth while investigating the ingredients of your anti ageing products, but don’t be confused by complicated sounding chemical names. Natural products can often contain almost the exact same ingredients.

Anti wrinkle cream reviews?

So, after trying all of these products, which one is the best anti wrinkle cream? Well, I have to say I was most impressed by the Lifecell cream. Unfortunately I just don’t think I can justify how expensive it is to my husband! It did seem to reduce my wrinkles quite dramatically, and I couldn’t believe I’d been missing out all these years by buying cheap and useless products. It also seemed to make my lips seem a lot fuller and redder, although I don’t know how it would work for sagging skin under the jawline because thankfully I haven’t developed that yet (I’m only in my thirties!).

I can’t say that I noticed my face having less expression than it did before, even though I was quite paranoid about it (I hate to think of myself developing that ridiculous botox mask face), so as far as the acetyl hexapeptide-3 goes, it seems to be quite effective. It works, but not so much that you’d notice the botox effect. I haven’t had any comments about my wrinkliness from Becky ever since I used this cream, so let’s hope the results last.

The Dermatology cream was also pretty good, and I would say the best anti aging cream in its price range. It’s quite hard to say how effective this was compared to the Lifecell cream because I used that one first so my face was already looking better when I started using this one, but it seemed very effective again. I definitely did feel like my skin was looking altogether healthier and far smoother. I really didn’t feel that my expressions were constricted at all, again, but I imagine they must have been because I noticed that my forehead was really looking remarkably smooth. It made me think twice about my botox phobia, but I still don’t think I’ll ever go for the actual injections.

The Athena cream was effective too; again one of the best anti wrinkle creams I’ve come across, but the only thing I’d say is that it does seem to be something you have to keep using to keep getting the same effects. It is a 7 minute miracle, but I doubt that the effects would last forever. It’s really a repeated 7 minute miracle. Great nonetheless, and I’ll never go back to my cheap creams again.
